Gary Neville raises concerns about Manchester United's transfer policy. According to the club legend, just like in previous years, the manager has once again had too much influence on it.
While Neville doesn't doubt the abilities of manager Erik ten Hag, he does acknowledge that a crucial period is approaching for the Dutch coach. He mentioned this in his own podcast on Sky Sports. "Over the past years, there have been plenty of managers who faced difficulties when challenging situations arose. José Mourinho, Louis van Gaal, David Moyes, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, for example. I hope we don't see the same with Ten Hag."
What Neville does have doubts about are the players Manchester United has brought in this summer. According to the Englishman, once again, the club has given the manager a significant role in this. "All the managers at Manchester United in recent years have been able to acquire the players they wanted. I was hoping for more of a project this time, but once again, they've let the manager influence the transfer policy. That's what concerns me."
If you look at how much money Manchester United has invested in this team, it should be performing much better. They've brought in players like André Onana, Rasmus Højlund, and Mason Mount. Have they really improved the team? That remains to be seen, but there are definitely doubts among the fans and myself.
