The past summer transfer window has once again broken several records. This is evident from an analysis by FIFA, which releases a report after every transfer window.
Between June 1st and September 1st, a total of €6.86 billion was spent on new players. This is a record, and it doesn't even include the latest transfers in Saudi Arabia. The Middle East market closed last Thursday. In the above-mentioned period, a total of 10,125 players made transfers, marking the first time this milestone was reached in a single transfer window.
England was responsible for the majority of the €6.86 billion spent by clubs. English clubs spent €1.85 billion, which is nearly 27 percent of the total. The two most expensive players in this summer transfer window also made transfers within England: Declan Rice (from West Ham United to Arsenal) and Moisés Caicedo (from Brighton & Hove Albion to Chelsea) for €116 million.
It's noteworthy that Saudi Arabia ranks second on the expenditure list (see table below). While England spent the most, Germany earned the most in the past transfer window. Just over €1 billion in total came in for German clubs, also marking a milestone that had not been reached before.
Another global record that was broken was that of agent fees. In total, agents received €650 million in fees. Including the winter transfer window, agents' earnings will reach almost €800 million in 2023, which is 36.9 percent higher than earnings last year.
