Azor Matusiwa remains loyal to Stade Reims for now. The 25-year-old midfielder has extended his contract with the French club until mid-2027.
For Matusiwa, the new contract is the crowning achievement of a strong second season in France. The former Dutch youth international was an undisputed starter for the 11th-placed team in Ligue 1.
He excelled in ball recoveries and interceptions. Not surprisingly, during his time at Ajax, Matusiwa was already compared to N'Golo Kanté.
Although he never made a breakthrough in Amsterdam as a midfielder, he developed strongly through his time at De Graafschap and FC Groningen. At Reims, Matusiwa has continued his progress. His French club emphasizes, upon announcing the contract extension, the defensive midfielder's great ambitions: to become an international player. Mitchell van Bergen and Kaj Sierhuis are the other two Dutch players in the Reims squad.
