UEFA initiates an investigation into the controversial Qatari transfers of PSG

PSG has raised nearly two hundred million euros in the Middle East. Marco Verratti and Abdou Diallo have already moved to Qatari club Al-Arabi. Julian Draxler followed suit but signed with Al-Ahli. Neymar (Al-Hilal) and Georginio Wijnaldum (Al-Ettifaq) have meanwhile departed for Saudi Arabia.

According to L'Équipe, UEFA has concerns about the transfers, particularly to Qatar. Because PSG is owned by the Qatar Sports Investments investment group, there may be a conflict of interest. If the investigation reveals that the parties are connected, it could result in a penalty imposed by the football governing body.

The investigation is a consequence of the Financial Fair Play regulations. Related parties can create accounting imbalances, potentially allowing clubs to artificially maintain financial stability through excessive player transactions.

Incidentally, UEFA is also looking into the transfer of Allan Saint-Maximin. The forward swapped Newcastle United for Saudi club Al-Ahli, which paid an amount below his estimated market value. This is noteworthy because Newcastle United is owned by a Saudi investment group.
