Oranje hit by injury woes again: Teze replaces Frimpong

Dutch national team coach Ronald Koeman is once again dealing with an injury in the Netherlands squad. Jeremie Frimpong has pulled out ahead of the European Championship qualifying match against Ireland. PSV's Jordan Teze has been called up as a replacement for the Bayer Leverkusen wing-back, the KNVB reported Thursday evening.

The list of absentees for Oranje continues to grow. Koeman was already unable to call upon Nathan Aké, Sven Botman, Matthijs de Ligt, Jurriën Timber, and Micky van de Ven due to injuries in defense, and now Frimpong joins them. The newly minted international, who made his debut last month, sustained an injury during Thursday's training session.

As a replacement, Koeman has decided to bring Teze into the squad. The 24-year-old defender is rewarded for his strong performance in the first months of the season with PSV. The Groningen-born player was last part of the Oranje squad in June 2022, when he made three international appearances in the Nations League under Louis van Gaal.

Recently, Teze expressed his hope in an interview with VI that he might join the Netherlands for the European Championship next summer. 'I think I am not far from Oranje if I continue on this path,' said the right-back. The Dutch national team can secure their place in the tournament in Germany during this international break by winning against either Ireland or Gibraltar.
