AC Milan's management is currently in talks with Julen Lopetegui, positioning the Spanish coach as the leading candidate to take charge of the Rossoneri from the next season onward.

This development has been widely reported by 'La Gazzetta dello Sport', which details the ongoing negotiations that could see Lopetegui return to a major European club's managerial role.

The discussions between AC Milan and Lopetegui have reportedly progressed well, with both sides agreeing in principle to a three-year contract. Under this proposed agreement, Lopetegui would receive a net salary of approximately four million euros per season, marking a significant investment in the club's future leadership.

Julen Lopetegui, aged 57, is not new to the demands of managing top football clubs. He previously managed FC Porto from 2014 to 2016, where he gained recognition for his tactical acumen and ability to develop young talents. His tenure at Porto, although not crowned with league titles, was noted for a competitive style of play and deep runs in European competitions.

Since his time at Porto, Lopetegui has held several high-profile positions, including a controversial stint as the head coach of the Spanish national team, where he was dismissed just before the 2018 FIFA World Cup due to his agreement to join Real Madrid. His time at Real Madrid was short-lived, however, marked by inconsistent results and eventually leading to his dismissal.

Lopetegui's most recent managerial role at Sevilla FC was much more fruitful. During his tenure, he restored the club to prominence, achieving multiple successful campaigns in La Liga and winning the UEFA Europa League in the 2019-2020 season. His ability to rebound after setbacks and succeed at Sevilla has likely made him an attractive option for Milan, who are eager to return to the top of Italian and European football.

AC Milan's interest in Lopetegui comes at a time when the club is looking to stabilize and build a competitive team that can challenge for titles both domestically and in Europe. With Lopetegui's track record of developing squads and achieving results, Milan's management appears hopeful that his leadership could drive the club forward into a new era of success.
