Raphaël Varane is still convinced of the qualities of Manchester United. The French defender even thinks that Erik ten Hag's team can win the Champions League.
Varane took a seat on Monday afternoon during a press moment to look ahead to Tuesday evening's clash with Galatasaray. The home game against the champions of Turkey is an opportunity for United to start the climb after the disappointing results of the past few weeks in their own country.
As a four-time winner of the Champions League, Varane knows what the tournament is all about. 'It's about details. You have to be efficient to win it. We can still improve in that. We need many opportunities to score. But at the top level, you have to be efficient to win prizes.'
If United improves, Varane thinks his club is capable of winning the Champions League. 'Yes, because the quality is there. We have a team full of quality with a good mentality. We have to do certain things better, but I still think we can compete with the best teams in the world.'
The thirty-year-old former Real Madrid player knows it is up to him to lead his young teammates by the hand. 'They are doing well and are giving the team new energy, but it is normal that they still have things to learn. We have a lot of work to do. We, as experienced players, have to set a good example.'
