Spanish justice doesn't scare Laporta: 'This will result in acquittal'

Joan Laporta is not concerned about the charges from the Spanish judiciary. The president of Barcelona is seen as one of the main figures in the Negreira case. 'All the supporters can breathe easy, because this case will be dismissed.'

Laporta has repeatedly called allegations of alleged corruption directed at him 'pure slander', but following in the footsteps of his predecessors Sandro Rosell and Maria Bartomeu, he has also been charged. This did not come as a surprise to Laporta.

'Because I know the history of the judiciary,' the president explained in a conversation with Catalunya Ràdio. 'But there is no basis, so I don't think it has any significance.'

As vice president of the Spanish referees commission, José María Enríquez Negreira received around seven million euros from Barcelona through his company between 2001 and 2018. It is being investigated why these payments were made. 'They can't prove anything because it's not true. We haven't paid any referees,' Laporta assured. 'This will result in an acquittal for Barcelona; we remain calm.'

Laporta reinforced his statements by mentioning that he is originally a lawyer. 'All the supporters can breathe easy, because this case will be dismissed.'
