After Chelsea's 2-0 defeat to Everton, manager Mauricio Pochettino hints at more transfers. In the view of the Argentine, his team is not good enough to keep up in the Premier League.
After spending more than 450 million euros on players like Moises Caicedo, Roméo Lavia, Christopher Nkunku, Cole Palmer, Axel Disasi, Nicolas Jackson, Robert Sánchez, Lesley Ugochukwu, Deivid Washington, Ángelo, and Djordje Petrovic, Chelsea's expectations for this season were sky-high.
However, the Londoners have been performing like an average team in the Premier League. They have already lost seven times and are currently placed twelfth. It should be noted that Chelsea has been plagued with injuries, forcing Pochettino to field a young team.
"We need to improve ourselves. It's a new team, and it's not so easy to build something. Expectations are high, but the results are different. We need to improve in the second half of the season to be more competitive and be where Chelsea belongs," Pochettino said after the 2-0 defeat to Everton.
"In football, it's about scoring goals, and we weren't sharp in front of goal. I am really very disappointed. We didn't get the point we deserved. I think we were better, but we didn't get what we wanted. It's a problem that we need to look into. We need to talk and try to improve in the next transfer period. We will see what we can do. I'm not going to ask for more or fewer players, but we do need to see if perception matches reality," he continued.
Overall, Chelsea has been one of the worst-performing clubs in the Premier League in 2023, along with Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace. In 39 matches (Forest and Palace 38 matches), they have only won nine times.
