Much-discussed VAR Left Out at Liverpool, Audio to be Made Public Soon

The English refereeing organization (PGMOL) has removed Darren England and his assistant Dan Cook from the refereeing list for the coming weekend. England received quite a bit of criticism as the VAR in last week's Tottenham Hotspur versus Liverpool match and now he has not been assigned to a game this weekend.

England, following the match between Tottenham and Liverpool, admitted fault. He acknowledged that he should have intervened as the VAR during a disallowed offside goal from Luis Díaz, but did not do so due to miscommunication. This led to astonishment among others, including Jürgen Klopp and Alexis Mac Allister. The PGMOL is currently investigating the incident and has decided not to deploy England for the time being.

According to various prominent English media outlets, as part of the investigation, the PGMOL has now shared the audio clip of the relevant VAR consultation with Liverpool and will also make it public in the interest of transparency at a later stage.

England explained after the match that his mistake was based on a misunderstanding. He thought that the acting referee, Simon Hooper, had allowed a goal. After seeing the images and realizing that Diaz was indeed not offside, England said: 'Check completed.' As a result, Hooper believed he had made the correct decision. In contrast to England, he is scheduled for the upcoming weekend. Hooper will oversee Everton against Bournemouth.
