Barcelona president Joan Laporta takes action against former police chief José Manuel Villarejo, who accused the Barça president of providing information to the police, which led to a prison sentence for his former rival Sandro Rosell.
Villarejo stated in an interview with RAC1 that Laporta would have informed the police that Rosell was laundering money. Rosell was a board member at Barcelona from 2003 to 2008 under Laporta's regime and competed against him for the presidency of the Catalan club in 2010.
Rosell defeated Laporta in that election, but even before he was officially installed, Rosell had to resign again because of the 'money laundering scandal'. Laporta's rival Rosell went to jail for two years but was eventually acquitted of all charges.
According to Villarejo, someone from Laporta's environment leaked the information about Rosell to the press. Laporta, back as president of Barcelona since March 2021, denies the accusations of the former police chief according to Sport and will take legal action against Villarejo.
