Manchester City has had to manage without 23-year-old Norwegian striker Erling Haaland for the last two matches.

Last Sunday, it was revealed that Haaland is dealing with foot issues. Having played 22 games for his club this season, the striker now needs a period of rest.

After the match between City and Crystal Palace, Haaland will travel with his teammates to Saudi Arabia for the Club World Cup. However, whether he will actually be able to play there remains uncertain. Pep Guardiola, in his Friday afternoon press conference, admitted that he simply does not know yet. The Champions League winners are set to play their first match at the Club World Cup on Tuesday evening against either Club León (Mexico) or Urawa Red Diamonds (Japan).

Before that, the English champions have an encounter with Roy Hodgson's tough Crystal Palace team. Last weekend, The Eagles posed a significant challenge to Liverpool. The Reds managed a comeback when Palace was reduced to ten men, eventually winning 1-2 with two late goals. Guardiola commented, "They defend amazingly. They are strong in set-pieces. It's always been a tough game against Palace, especially with Roy as manager."

Guardiola laughed when asked during the press event if he plans to still be a manager in his seventies, like the now 76-year-old Hodgson. "I don't think so, but he has the fire and the passion to still stand on this stage," responded Guardiola with admiration.

Expanding on the news, Haaland's absence poses a significant challenge for Manchester City, given his exceptional performance this season. His potential unavailability for the upcoming Club World Cup adds to Guardiola's tactical considerations. The team will need to adapt and possibly rely more on their depth and tactical flexibility.

The upcoming game against Crystal Palace will be a test for Manchester City's adaptability without Haaland. Palace's recent performance against Liverpool indicates they could present a tough challenge, especially with Hodgson's experienced management.

Guardiola's remarks about Roy Hodgson reflect the respect and admiration he has for his colleague's longevity and passion for the game. Hodgson's continued involvement in football at his age is exceptional and serves as an inspiration in the world of football management.

The situation highlights the unpredictability and challenges of a football season, where injuries and absences of key players can significantly impact a team's performance and strategy. Guardiola's experience and tactical acumen will be crucial in navigating this period and maintaining City's competitiveness in both domestic and international competitions.
