Jürgen Klopp's decision to appoint Virgil van Dijk as the new captain of Liverpool isn't met with unanimous understanding.

Former Sky Sports presenter and current beIN Sports analyst Richard Keys raises significant doubts about the succession of Jordan Henderson, who moved to Al-Ettifaq. 'The rebuild was necessary, but I don't see leaders in the team anymore. Van Dijk is not a leader. He is too calm and selfish. If he plays well, that's all that matters to him. And he didn't play well often enough last season.'

'They will miss Henderson and Milner (Brighton & Hove Albion, red.),' Keys added. 'I know the decision around Milner was made based on statistics, but sometimes you have to go with your gut feeling. Klopp knows that losing Milner is a loss. A big loss. But he couldn't get his way to keep him.'

Despite his criticism, Keys does think that Chelsea should be beatable for Liverpool this coming Sunday. 'Chelsea is still a mess. Pochettino thinks he's a much better manager than the one we saw at Spurs. He has to believe that, but I don't know what he's basing that judgment on.'
