Augsburg go top after Frankfurt comeback as Mainz thrash Hamburg
Augsburg continued their excellent start to the Bundesliga season with an impressive 4-1 comeback victory away to Eintracht Frankfurt, overturning an early deficit with a devastating second-half performance that sent them to the top of the table. Frankfurt had taken the lead through Jonathan Burkardt after only six minutes and remained ahead at half-time, but the match changed completely after the restart as an own goal from Elias Baum was followed almost immediately by Robin Fellhauer putting Augsburg in front. Alexis Claude-Maurice and Fabian Rieder then added further goals to complete a convincing away win. Frankfurt could hardly have asked for a better start. In the 46th minute, Baum turned the ball into his own net, cancelling out the Frankfurt lead and immediately changing the atmosphere surrounding the game.
The equaliser was damaging enough for the hosts, but what followed made the situation considerably worse. Only one minute later, Fellhauer scored to complete an extraordinary turnaround. Sheraldo Becker opened the scoring in the 19th minute, putting Mainz ahead and immediately increasing the pressure on a Hamburg side still looking for their first Bundesliga point of the season. The visitors then doubled their advantage shortly before half-time when Phillipp Mwene scored in the 41st minute.
Going into the interval two goals behind left Hamburg with a difficult task, particularly against a Mainz team that had already established both control and confidence. Tietz was not finished. The forward struck again in the 83rd minute for his second goal of the afternoon, extending the lead to four and turning the match into a rout. Hamburg remain without a point

Conceding five goals at home only increases the pressure after what has already been a difficult return to Bundesliga competition.
Portuguese goalkeeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes started the match, while Fábio Vieira was introduced at half-time as Hamburg attempted to change the direction of the game. The substitution came with the hosts already 2-0 behind, but Mainz scored again only three minutes into the second half, making any comeback increasingly unlikely.
